People Who Strengthen CNGA and the Industry

Each year, CNGA recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to CNGA and the industry. The following awards are presented to individuals each year at the annual Industry Celebration:

Hall of Fame - This prestigious award is presented to an individual who, throughout their career, has demonstrated leadership and commitment resulting in overall improvements to the industry.

Horizon - This award acknowledges an individual who has been in the industry less than five years, exhibits the qualities and high standards exemplifying CNGA, and during that time has made a significant contribution to a CNGA firm.

Person of the Year - This award recognizes an individual who in the last 12 months has made a positive impact on the regional horticulture industry through their involvement, actions or participation in the promotion of professionalism, creativity and involvement for the betterment of the industry.

2016 Award Winners

Al Gerace | Hall of Fame

Al has played a role in so many aspects of our industry and is well known throughout the country for his contributions. He has received almost every horticulture award possible. His economic background has helped him grow the family business (Welby Gardens) from 60,000 sq. ft. to 1 million sq. ft. and he developed the bedding plant export business. He was also instrumental in many local trade associations and played a major role in launching of Plant Select. Al is known for his generosity and support. He has donated not only plant material, but also his time to so many projects over the years. 

Al currently serves as the chairman on the Colorado Agriculture Commission and he is the co-chair of the Local Perennial Plant Association Committee. He has served on the Colorado Greenhouse Growers Association Board of Directors and as President, on the All American Selections National Meetings Committee on the Advisory Committee for Annual Trial Grounds at Fort Collins from 1991-2006, Revitalization of Riverside Cemetery sustainable color project & Plant Select Garden 2010-2013.

Kevin Laman, CCNP | Hall of Fame

Kevin was instrumental in helping the Colorado Nursery Association in its early years and was an active board member and president who put in long hours. He always attended the Northern Colorado meetings and gatherings. Kevin worked at Green Acres as an intern and spent the rest of his career at Bath. He started in 1974 and retired in 2016. Kevin is an alumni of Colorado State University and earned the Colorado Certified Nursery Professional (CCNP) designation in 1992. 

Kevin dedicated his entire career to establishing and maintaining professional standards for nurseries, landscaping and retail garden centers. He has been an outstanding asset to the industry.

Caitlin Bird | Horizon Award

Caitlin is a dedicated and hardworking employee at Fort Collins Nursery. She looks at every challenge as a learning opportunity, and puts forth effort to teach herself and learn. Caitlin then applies that knowledge to her daily routine and teaches the others around her.

She always comes to work with a positive can do attitude and is willing to learn. Caitlin has caught on very quickly and has learned a great amount. Her commitment to her education and her life goals is impressive. Caitlin steps up to any challenge and always takes them on with a positive outlook. Caitlin has become a reliable employee that we can trust, and depend on.
